On Greens, Democracy, and the Position of

Councilperson

The Green Party is a democratic party.  It is even more

democratic than many of the actually titled Democratic Party

representatives.  The Green Party is a grass roots democratic

party.  Many Democrats have overused the term to claim they

have done grass roots work but in fact have watered down the

meaning.  As an Indigenous student of the east coast Iroquois

Confederacy whose consitution was used to create the

constitution of this great country, I know what real democracy

is.  Unfortunately the original Iroquois constitution was

watered down in various areas by the "misinterpreters", hence

forth so was democracy.

Democrats had their time.  Some still have it.  Some even have

their moments.  But if one arrives at their meetings, many times

it is business, many have become complacent, comforted by

contributions, their guidelines are corporate and not the

constituent.  The soul has been sold. They have lost touch with

the constituent and what is left of the community they have

sacrificed.

Arrive at a Green grouping and the openess of mind is felt.

Progress is felt.  The soul has not been sold.  There is not

temptation for the soul to be sold.  There are no corporate

contributions.  There are only pittances from members and

supporters.  From the people.

At the lowest level and most closely associated with the people,

the city councilwoman/councilman position is one of the most

important representatives.  If this position is sacrificed by

bowing down to the values of the upper echelons of

government to the highest tier of the executive office then

the government is serving itself or the elite and that is not

democratic.  That is oligarchic.

Post Script:  The rest of the free world knows the essentialness

of third parties in a democracy to have all its people

represented.  In the rest of the free world the Green Party is

another party like a Republican or a Democratic party and not

another third party (a term used to keep all other parties on the

exterior by connotating them in one lump group as third parties

and maintaining the two party system in the center of it all and

always in the number 1 and 2 positions).  There needs to be

a proportional representation as most democracies have.
